Want to cut out all the riff-raff and find the 5 best animated films of 2009? We have compiled a list featuring only the best. A few of the movies were nominated for Oscars, and one of them took it home.

  1. "Up." The winner of the Oscar for 2009's Best Animated Film was “Up.” The movie is an entertaining movie that features a kick ass hero named Mr. Frederickson. Although Mr. Frederickson is an old guy, he could take Chuck Norris in one round. Combined with one of the coolest storylines, Mr. Frederickson helps to make “Up” one of the best animated films of 2009.

  2. "The Princess and the Frog." Disney's first animated film featuring a black lead character did not disappoint audiences. With catchy tunes and a modern twist on a relatively lame story, “The Princess and the Frog” raised the bar in classic animation.

  3. "Coraline." The odd movie “Coraline” has to be included in a list of the best animated films of 2009. “Coraline” is one of those movies that makes you feel as if you are tripping without actually partaking in anything that would land you in jail. The title character exists in an alternate world that most of us could only dream of.

  4. "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." Although most critics panned the movie, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” is one of those movies that kind of grows on you. What really makes the movie one of the best animated films of 2009 is its underlying theme of seeking acceptance from a parent. Most people can relate to that.

  5. "Monsters vs. Aliens." “Monsters vs. Aliens” was one of the best animated films of 2009 because it features a heroine that can kick butt with the best of them. During the movie, she finds herself and realizes her strength lies in more than just her physical strength.

There are many other animated films that were released in 2009. Some of them were pretty good, but they didn't have the same entertainment value as the best. With animation constantly evolving, 2010 looks to be an exciting year for animation.
