  1. Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This scenic running trail has over 18,000 acres of redwood forest. The Redwood trails, located in the Santa Cruz mountains, are the perfect place for hill training. With over 80 miles of trails, you are certain to find the perfect hill for training. Depending on how hard you want to work, there are elevations as high as 2,000 feet.
  2. Silver Lake Reservoir. This best running trail in California is located in the hilly Silver Lake community. The total mileage of this running loop is 4.13 miles if you include the Ivanhoe reservoir, too. Silver Lake is a very popular place for runners to do hilly workouts, so it might be crowded. Dog are also allowed on the trails. Start out at the Silver Lake Recreation Center and continue all the way around the reservoir. This trail takes you through rolling hills and is best for a long, hilly workout.
  3. Pacifica Trail. This hilly trail is used for the Pacific Coast Trail run. There are loops from 3.1 miles to 35 miles. Most of the loops have rolling hills and feature beautiful scenery from eucalyptus trees to waterfalls.
  4. Folsom Lake Trail. This best running trail for hill training is located outside the Folsom reservoir. There are ten miles of hilly trails. This running trail is appropriate for runners of all abilities.
