Good first date advice can really help make a big difference in whether or not a relationship blooms or fails. First dates can be fun and exciting experiences or they can be incredibly embarrassing and awkward. Many people say a first date is like an interview and there is a lot of truth behind this. You will usually be asking your date a lot of questions, especially if you don't know her very well. The important thing is to stay calm and collected. Not all first dates will be a success, but by following good first date advice, you will greatly improve your chances of going on subsequent dates and having a great time.

  1. Be yourself Lying about who you are is a terrible way to start off a relationship. Act natural and show your date who you really are. Don't try hard to be funny or assertive because it will show and your date will probably feel uncomfortable. Instead, try to act the way you would around an old friend, while still being mindful of what you say.
  2. Ask questions Some common first date advice is to ask questions. You don't want awkward silences during the date. This does not mean conversation has to be constant and forced, but you want the date to flow as smoothly as possible. If you have trouble thinking of things to ask on the spot, try thinking of several questions you could ask beforehand. Try not to ask imposing or difficult questions on the first date. Remember to keep things light and casual.
  3. Be polite and courteous Most people don't like it when others are rude or obnoxious. This does not mean you just need to say please and thank you, although you should definitely do so. Treat your date with respect. Do not talk only about yourself and be sure to open doors or help out in any way necessary.
  4. Choose something fun First date locations can sometimes be tough. Some people like to stand out and do something different, while others like to go with the classic dinner and a movie. Do what feels right for you or what you think your date may enjoy the most. If you know your date hates movies but loves to play golf, take her out to play golf. Use common sense and do what feels right to you when choosing a first date venue.
