How To Clean Converse Canvas Shoes

Learn about how to clean Converse canvas shoes to keep them looking great. Converse All-Stars are canvas shoes worn for playing basketball and other sports as well as just kicking around. They have been around for along time and were made popular by Chuck Taylor, a basketball player. Thus, Converse All-Stars are often called Chucks. The Converse canvas shoe comes as a high top and a low top.

To clean Converse canvas shoes, you will need:

  • Woolite or other gentle detergent
  • Water
  • Spray bottle
  • Cloth
  • Washing machine

Steps

  1. Spot clean Converse canvas shoes. To keep your Converse canvas shoes clean, it's a good idea to spot clean them as needed. After you wear them each time, take them off and look at the canvas portion as well as the rubber on the soles and where the canvas meets the rubber for any spots or discoloration. Fill a spray bottle with a solution of one part Woolite or other gentle detergent and parts water. Spray the spots with the solution and gently scrub with a cloth.
  2. Wash the Converse canvas shoes in the washing machine. It's okay to wash your Converse shoes in the washing machine with a gentle detergent. Do not use bleach. Use warm water, not hot to clean the Converse canvas shoes.
  3. Let the shoe air dry. Do not put Converse canvas shoes in a clothes dryer. Let them air dry by removing the laces, opening the tongue, and setting them away from a heat source to dry. To speed drying of the inside of the shoe, press clean towels inside the shoe to absorb some of the moisture.

Tip Never use bleach or detergent with bleach to clean Converse canvas shoes.
