How Do You Clean Suede Tennis Shoes?
How do you clean suede tennis shoes? The best way to clean suede tennis shoes is to take them to the dry cleaners. Of course, the cost over time can easily exceed the price of the shoes. Like a pretty woman, suede looks good but is as hard to maintain. With a little coddling your used suede tennis shoes can clean up well. Here are a few tips to clean your pretty suede tennis shoes without taking your wallet to the cleaners.
- Bring up the nap. Take a clean bath towel and rub all over the surface of the shoe. This will open up the nappy fabric making it easier to clean.
- Treat wet stains. Blot wet stains with a paper towel. Make sure to apply a lot of pressure to the towel to get up as much of the stain as possible. Continue until the stain is dry to the touch.
- Remove dry stains. Use a clean pencil eraser on any dirt marks. Don't press to hard. Take your time and remove the mark one layer at a time.
-
Remove stubborn stains. Never apply a chemical stain remover to your suede tennis shoes. Instead dampen a paper towel with water and use it to rub white vinegar on the stains. Allow the vinegar to dry. The vinegar will stink up your shoes but the odor, like the stain will go away.
-
Attack Scuffs. Suede tennis shoes scuff easily. Use a finger nail file to gently scrape the scuff away. Do the same with any clumps of dirt sticking to the shoe.
- Brush the shoes. Using a wire suede brush, carefully brush down each shoe.
