Knowing how to propose marriage to your girlfriend will take some thought. All girlfriends are different, so you want to focus on a marriage proposal that your will like best. Then, you can propose marriage to your girlfriend and be confident that she’ll say yes.

  1. Know your girlfriend. Don’t plan a public marriage proposal to a girlfriend who’s painfully shy, for example. When planning to propose marriage to your girlfriend, keep her preferences and personality in mind and let that guide your decisions.
  2. Pick the right time. If your girlfriend is the type that will want to get married right away, for example, don’t propose marriage in the middle of winter. Propose during a time of year when weddings are popular, such as late spring or early summer. Also, pick the right time of day. If your girlfriend goes to bed early, propose marriage over dinner, rather than when you get home.
  3. Pick the right place. Choose a romantic spot to propose marriage to your girlfriend and always keep her preferences in mind. Girls who love nature might adore a proposal in the park. However, a girlfriend who appreciates fine dining, might love a marriage proposal in the fanciest restaurant in town.
  4. Rehearse your words. Don’t try to propose marriage off the top of your head. Know what you want to say and rehearse it several times. Write down the key points you want to cover so you don’t forget anything. Avoid going on and on during the proposal. A few sentimental, romantic lines will do.
  5. Come prepared. No matter what you do, make sure you don’t forget the ring. This is one of the most important things to remember when you propose marriage to your girlfriend. The ring shows your girlfriend that you know her taste and style and that you’re really serious about spending your life with her.
